The Perseus Books Group And Newmarket Press
Announce New Distribution Agreement

NEW YORK CITY – The Perseus Books Group and Newmarket Press announced today that they have entered into a new multi-year sales and distribution agreement for the U.S. and Canada, with services being provided by Perseus Distribution. The new agreement will go into effect on May 1, 2008. Newmarket Press had been distributed by W.W. Norton & Company since 1999.

“I look forward to working with Perseus and their dynamic team,” said Newmarket Press president & publisher Esther Margolis. “I’m especially pleased that our changeover is taking place in time for Perseus to sell our fall list, which includes maverick billionaire Sam Wyly’s business memoir $1,000 Dollars and an Idea and the sequel to Ping: A Frog in Search of a New Pond, an international bestseller with translations in  20 languages.”

“We have long admired Newmarket’s publishing program and entrepreneurial spirit,” said Sabrina McCarthy, VP of Client Services for Perseus Distribution.  “We see Newmarket as a natural fit for Perseus Distribution and we look forward to working with them to expand the reach of their books in the marketplace.”

With over 300 titles published, Newmarket Press, which Margolis founded in 1981, has succeeded as one of the few mainstream, trade publishing houses in New York City under independent, entrepreneurial ownership. The house currently publishes about 30 books a year.

Publishing primarily nonfiction titles in the areas of film, parenting, biography, health, and self-help, Newmarket’s list includes the 2-million-copy bestselling What’s Happening to My Body? series for boys and girls by Lynda Madaras; Suze Orman’s  first book You’ve Earned It, Don’t Lose It;  Daphne Oz’ The Dorm Room Diet and The Dorm Room Diet Planner; illustrated moviebooks on The Kite Runner, Superbad, DreamgirlsGladiator and Dances with Wolves; media tie-ins on Rescue Me and The West Wing;  and the acclaimed Newmarket Shooting Script series, including Oscar® winner Juno,  Michael Clayton, Little Miss Sunshine, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and The Shawshank Redemption.
